Although this was at a time before I was born (right smack dab in downtown Detroit, 1955), it roughly occurred at the same time my parents migrated to the Motor Shitty from Places North (i.e., the Minnesota Iron Range & Upper Peninsula of Michigan).

Once there, they partied hardy and met in the hectic, historic Woodrow Wilson district near Highland Park, which many Old Timers still have fond memories of.

Which is to say that Detroit was an extremely cosmopolitan, vibrant, and lively town in those days -- nothing like it was soon to become (post 1960, roughly).
